NC/SC Shrine Bowl rosters unveiled

UNC, NC State, ECU have most N.C. Shrine Bowl players

The Shrine Bowl will feature 44 of the top senior football players in North Carolina playing against 44 of the best seniors from South Carolina in a postseason all-star game in Spartanburg, S.C., on Dec. 16.

The rosters for each state were announced on Monday afternoon.

North Carolina and NC State each have commitments from five North Carolina Shrine Bowl players. Future Tar Heels include Cary Green Hope WR Jordyn Adams, Charlotte West Mecklenburg WR Dyami Brown, Havelock OL Avery Jones, Wake Forest DB Javon Terry and Hollsborough Orange LB Payton Wilson. All of Larry Fedora’s in-state commitments were chosen for the team.

Future members of the Wolfpack on the North Carolina squad include Clayton WR Devin Carter, Charlotte Harding DB Malik Dunlap, Lexington North Davidson kicker Chris Dunn, Mebane Eastern Alamance OL Gabriel Gonzalez and Wake Forest Heritage RB Ricky Person. Two of Dave Doeren’s in-state recruits, WR Tyler Williams and RB Trent Pennix, were not chosen for the team.

East Carolina had four North Carolina Shrine Bowlers: Greenville Conley QB Holton Ahlers, Statesville South Iredell DT Chandler Medeiros, Raleigh Millbrook OL Donovan Noel and High Point SW Guilford DB Jaren Rainey.

Wake Forest has two players on the North Carolina team and three on the South Carolina squad. Hope Mills Southview OL Mike Edwards and Winston-Salem Mount Tabor TE Blake Whitehead made the NC team. On the SC team, Wake Forest landed Saluda DT Kelijiha Brown, Mt. Pleasant Oceanside QB Sam Hartman and Florence Wilson DB Zion Keith.

Two other in-state schools landed Shrine Bowlers. Duke got a commitment from Harrisburg Hickory Ridge WR Jarrett Garner. App State had Kernersville Robert B. Glenn QB Stephon Brown.

Duke also landed a pair of South Carolina Shriners in McCormick RB Mataeo Durant and Gaffney WR Dennis Smith.
