Five killed in North Carolina crash during police chase

GREENSBORO – Five people were killed late Saturday night when a suspected stolen car being chased by a sheriff’s deputy ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle at an intersection in Greensboro, law officials said. The accident happened at the corner of Battleground Avenue and New Garden Rd. The roads around it were shut down for more than nine hours.

The deputy was about a quarter mile behind the suspected stolen car when the crash occurred around midnight, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release on Sunday.

Three of those killed, identified only as two males and a female, were in the suspected stolen vehicle. The other two fatalities, two females, were in the car that was struck, the sheriff’s office said. There were no survivors.

The Greensboro Police Department is investigating the incident.
