East Carolina will host Brigham Young in football for the first time ever at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on Saturday.

But it won’t be the last time.

The schools announced Thursday that the Pirates and Cougars have agreed to extend their football series by adding home-and-home games in 2022 and 2024.

“The opportunity to continue to play against a program of BYU’s national profile and brand is not only encouraged, but welcomed,” ECU coach Scottie Montgomery said in a statement. “Each of our venues offer a great college football environment and it’s exciting to be a part of that tradition.”

The Pirates began their current two-game agreement with the Cougars, one of the few remaining independents in the FBS, with a 45-38 loss in Provo, Utah in 2015. They will return to LaVell Edwards Stadium for a game on Oct. 15, 2022.

BYU will then come to Greenville for a game on Oct. 19, 2024. NC State (Sept. 3) and Virginia Tech (Sept. 17) are also on ECU’s nonconference schedule that season.

Additional details, including broadcast plans, game times and ticket information will be released at a later date.
