The matchmakers for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge missed an opportunity for some intriguing storylines in next season’s event by deciding not to match newly hired Indiana coach Archie Miller and Northwestern’s Chris Collins against their alma maters. Instead, Miller’s current team will take on Collins’ former school, Duke, as part of the 14-game lineup that was announced Thursday. The game will be played in Bloomington, Ind. Miller’s alma mater NC State, will be at home against Penn State in the 19th renewal of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge while defending national champion North Carolina and Wake Forest will also be at home — with the Tar Heels taking on Michigan and the Deacons hosting Illinois. The games will be played in late November, with dates, game times and network designations announced at a later date. All 14 games of the series will be televised by ESPN’s family of networks. The game between UNC and Michigan will be the first between the schools since the 1993 national championship game, won by the Tar Heels 77-71. The other three matchups involving state schools are rematches of previous Challenges. Duke and Indiana last played in 2015 while State and Wake both played their upcoming opponents in 2000.
