C.J. Bryce, a first-team All-CAA selection who led UNC Wilmington to the conference championship and an NCAA tournament bid last season, has been released from his scholarship according to a report by Alex Riley of the Wilmington Star-News. The 6-foot-5 sophomore shooting guard from Charlotte led the Seahawks in scoring at 17.4 points per game. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists while shooting 48.5 percent from the floor on his way to earning MVP honors at the CAA tournament. UNCW won two straight conference titles during Bryce’s two seasons and finished his career at the school with 925 points and 318 rebounds. Bryce, who will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season under NCAA transfer rules, is considered one of the most highly sought-after transfers this offseason. Although he has not yet given an indication as to where he might finish his career, there is speculation that Bryce could potentially follow his former coach at UNCW, Kevin Keatts, to NC State.
