Martin Truex Jr. overtook Brad Keselowski in the opening portion of the race to win the first stage of the Kobalt 400. He followed that up with another stage win before passing Keselowski — again — in the final laps to claim the race in Las Vegas for his first victory of the season.Keselowski reported a tire going down as he plummeted from first to fifth after the white flag waved. Meanwhile, Truex feasted on the issue for Keselowski and clinched a spot in the NASCAR postseason along with seven total playoff points with the two stage wins and checkered flag.Watch: @MartinTruex_Jr gets by @keselowski late to WIN at @LVMotorSpeedway as @KyleBusch slides across the line. https://t.co/mRaz4zpLVP FOX Sports (@FOXSports) March 12, 2017
As Truex crossed the start-finish line to win the race, Kyle Busch went sliding into the pits as his car was turned in the final turn. Joey Logano made contact with Busch after his car got loose coming around Turn 3 into Turn 4 to drop him into the 22nd position.Busch took issue with the contact, immediately exiting his car and heading toward Logano on pit road at his parked car. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver threw a punch, knocking the Team Penske driver back as Logano’s crew jumped on Busch to break up the fight. After emerging from the bottom of the scrum, Busch had a cut on his forehead as he walked back to his hauler. While it didn’t appear Logano intentionally ran into Busch, the 2015 Cup Series champion still took action.”I got dumped. Flat out just drove straight into the corner and wrecked me,” Busch said. “That’s how Joey races. He’s gonna get it.”Logano said he wasn’t hit during the altercation and offered his side of what transpired.”There wasn’t much talking, there was a lot of swinging,” Logano said. “I don’t know. I was racing hard there at the end with our Pennzoil Ford. Kyle and I usually race really well together. We usually never have any issues, and he tried to pin me down into the corner underneath Brad and we about crashed on entry, and then I was still trying to gather it up by the center and I was gonna spin out, so I’m trying to chase it up and he was there. “It obviously wasn’t anything intentional, but obviously he thinks that, so, I don’t know, we’ll get by.”This is far from the last we’ll hear about Logano and Busch’s tussle, with penalties likely coming for both sides with Logano’s crew getting in on the fight.
