GREENVILLE, S.C. — A problem with the court at Bon Secours Wellness Arena forced workers to make emergency repairs between Friday’s two NCAA tournament sessions at the building. The bad section of hardwood was discovered by officials during the second game of the day, North Carolina’s 103-64 victory against Texas Southern. Players from both teams were advised of the problem and the game was completed without incident. “The officials pointed it out and said there was a bad spot on the left side of the court,” Tar Heels guard Nate Britt said. “Coach (Roy Williams) told us to stay away.” Immediately following the game, technicians armed with drills, an electric sander and other tools took to the court to make repairs before the next scheduled game between Duke and Troy. Their work created a discolored patch on the floor adjacent to the lane on the left side of the court. Afterward, the NCAA issued the following statement about the situation: “During the first session of today’s NCAA tournament games in Greenville, a minor irregularity was discovered on one of the panels of the playing court. As is the case every year, our partners from Connor Sport Court are on site and they quickly repaired the seam as soon as the North Carolina-Texas Southern game concluded. “Once repairs were made, players from Duke and Troy were given access to the court and each team had 46 minutes to warm up for tonight’s first game of the second session. The safety of the student-athletes remain our top priority.”
