North Carolina and Appalachian State are reportedly in negotiations to play a three-game football series, with one of the games to be played in Boone. The Watauga Democrat, citing an unnamed ASU source, is reporting that announcement on the proposed games could be released by next week. The Tar Heels and Mountaineers have only met once previously on the football field, with UNC winning 56-6 in Chapel Hill on Sept. 21, 1940. ASU, which will begin its third season as an FBS member next fall, has already attracted one ACC opponent to Boone — having played Miami there last season. It is scheduled to host Wake Forest next fall. The Mountaineers also recently entered into a four-game deal with East Carolina, a series that will include a game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte along with two in Greenville and one in Boone. There is no indication yet when the reported UNC-ASU series would be played.
