Jim Tatum Award winner Ryan Janvion of Wake Forest and fellow National Football Foundation scholar-athlete DeVon Edwards of Duke head the list of 66 players named to the 2016 Academic All-ACC team announced Wednesday. Janvion, a senior safety, won the Tatum award as the league’s top scholar-athlete. Edwards, a graduate cornerback/kick returner who missed most of the season with an injury, earned a spot on the team for the fourth straight year. He is one of 14 Blue Devils to earn recognition. That’s more selections than the other three in-state teams combined. Wake Forest is represented by six players, NC State three and North Carolina 2. In addition to players attending in-state schools, North Carolina natives Braxton Berrios of Miami (Raleigh), Landon Dickerson of Florida State (Hickory) and Dexter Lawrence of Clemson (Wake Forest) were among those honored. Players must earn at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintain a 3.00 or better cumulative average for their undergraduate and/or graduate careers to be eligible the Academic All-ACC team. This year’s team was chosen from a pool of 143 ACC football players nominated by their schools.
