Wake Forest football coach Dave Clawson has filled one of the two openings on his staff by hiring Wayne Lineburg as the Deacons’ new tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. Lineburg is a Virginia graduate who served as Clawson’s offensive coordinator when the two were at Richmond from 2004-06. He spent the past three season at UConn, where he was the Huskies’ quarterbacks coach. “I am very pleased to have Wayne join our staff,” said Clawson in a statement announcing Lineburg’s hiring. “He is familiar with our offensive system and will be an asset in mentoring our tight ends and also coordinating our special teams.” Lineburg, a college quarterback who played on three bowl teams at UVa., has also served coaching stints at his alma mater and William & Mary. He replaces Adam Scheier, who left Wake’s staff last week in what was called a mutual decision with Clawson. The Deacons still need to find a replacement for defensive coordinator Mike Elko, who left to take a similar position at Notre Dame after the Deacons’ win against Temple in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27.
