NC State wide receiver Bra’Lon Cherry and East Carolina outside linebacker Dayon Pratt turned in standout performances Sunday at the Tropical Bowl college football all-star game in Daytona Beach, Fla. Cherry caught a team-leading four passes, including an 18-yard touchdown from Western Illinois’ Trenton Norvell early in the second quarter, to lead the National team to a 28-14 win in a game attended by scouts representing 26 NFL teams and numerous others from the CFL. Pratt recorded three tackles, 1.5 sacks and a pair of quarterback hurries for the American team. Other players from state schools included a pair of special teams aces. Appalachian State punter Bentlee Critcher averaged 43.0 yards on seven kicks for the American team, with a long of 51 yards and two inside the 20-yard line. UNC Pembroke placekicker Matt Davis made both of his extra points and didn’t get to attempt a field goal for the National team. One of his two kickoffs went out of bounds. Wake Forest safety Thomas Brown had a pass breakup, Fayetteville State defensive back Brian Walker had one tackle while Appalachian State offensive guard Tyson Fernandez and tight end Barrett Burns also played for the National team. Charlotte wide receiver Austin Duke saw action for the American team.
