RALEIGH Charlotte Checkers captain and leading scorer Derek Ryan and Brock McGinn were both recalled Friday by the Carolina Hurricanes.Ryan, 29, had 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in nine games with the Checkers this season, while McGinn, 22, had points in seven straight games (five goals, three assists in nine total games) before being promoted to the Hurricanes.Both Ryan and McGinn made their NHL debuts with the Hurricanes last season. Ryan scored two goals in six games with Carolina, and McGinn played in 21 games, registering three goals and an assist. The moves come after a flurry of activity earlier in the day. The team announced forward Bryan Bickell had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis less than two hours earlier. Prior to that, forward Phil Di Giuseppe was assigned to the Checkers and defenseman Jakub Nakladal was placed on waivers.
