Duke held a “pro day” practice for more than 60 NBA scouts and executives on Tuesday, and it proved to be a costly workout.According to multiple reports on social media, freshman forward Jayson Tatum suffered a foot injury. Former Virginia Tech coach Seth Greenberg, now an ESPN analyst, was present at the workout and broke the news, tweeting, “Jayson Tatum goes down with some type of foot injury. Didn’t look good.”ESPN’s Jeff Goodman confirmed the story after speaking to several NBA sources. “NBA guys raving to me about Jayson Tatum after first pro day and through today,” he tweeted, “until injury at end. Still unclear severity of the injury.” NBC Sports spoke to two sources present when the injury occurred and reported that was injured on a “routine landing”, was in pain and left the court without putting any weight on the foot. An NBA scout told Draft Express that Tatum “appeared to suffer a stress reaction in his foot.” Duke released a statement confirming the injury on Wednesday afternoon. The school reported, “Duke men’s basketball freshman Jayson Tatum suffered a left foot sprain in practice on Tuesday. The anticipated recovery time for this injury is two weeks. Tatum will not play in Duke’s exhibition games against Virginia State on Oct. 28 and Augustana on Nov. 4.” “This is the best possible news,” head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in the news release. “It is a manageable injury that will not impact Jayson long-term. We look forward to having him back very soon.”Tatum was a five-star recruit and the fourth-best incoming freshman in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite Index. He was the leading scorer in the Blue-White scrimmage at last Friday’s Countdown to Craziness.Duke is already without freshman forward Harry Giles, who missed his final season of high school after undergoing ACL surgery. He had his knee scoped to clean out scar tissue earlier this fall and is doubtful for the start of the season.
