DURHAM — The North Carolina Sheriff Police Alliance (NCSPA) endorsed Gov. Pat McCrory for a second term because his leadership and hardworking values are a benefit for law enforcement throughout the state of North Carolina, according to a NCSPA press release.
NCSPA president, Andy Miller, pointed to McCrory’s reform efforts, from steering more resources toward fixing chronic delays and backlogs at the state crime lab, to funding body camera programs.
“Governor McCrory has demonstrated his support for law enforcement and the work they do to keep our state safe,” said Miller.
The screening committee of the NCSPA met with both Governor McCrory and his Democrat opponent, Attorney General Roy Cooper.
According to the alliance, decisions were based on candidate participation and responses to questions composed by the screening committee, which consists of a group of law enforcement officers who are NCSPA members.
McCrory also has endorsements from the Fraternal Order of Police, the Police Benevolent Association, and the N.C. Troopers Association.
The gubernatorial candidates are scheduled to hold their second live debate in October.
