ORLANDO Catherine White, Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen 2016, placed First Runner Up at the 2016 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant. The event was held at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida.White, a homeschool student from Clayton, N.C., performed a tap dance
to “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” and won a preliminary award for the evening gown/onstage question categories. She is the daughter of David and Amy White of Clayton. Her platform for the competition was “The Power of S.H.E: Selfless, Humility, Esteem.” White performed a tap dance to “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now.” She will receive a $10,000 scholarship for her placement. The Top 5 finalists also included Outstanding Teens representing Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Florida. Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen, Nicole Jia, was crowned the 12th Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. Catherine White is the first North Carolina teen contestant to win a
preliminary award in any category at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen
competition. The Miss America Outstanding Teen Organization, founded in 2005, remains one of the top providers of scholarships
for teen girls in the United States, awarding over $22 million in
scholarship funds annually.
