DURHAM — Keishon Porter’s 37 points led North Carolina Central past South Carolina State 79-68 in the regular season finale on Thursday night.
Porter had five rebounds for the Eagles (17-12, 9-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Po’Boigh King shot 6 for 11 (3 for 6 from 3-point range) and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line to add 18 points. Timmy Adedire shot 3 of 5 from the field and 6 for 9 from the line to finish with 12 points, while adding six rebounds.
Raquan Brown finished with 19 points for the Bulldogs (14-17, 9-5). Michael Teal added 14 points for South Carolina State. Omar Croskey had eight points and nine rebounds. The Bulldogs broke a five-game winning streak with the loss.
ACC Women’s Tournament
Duke 70, Georgia Tech 58
GREENSBORO — Kennedy Brown scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half, after Duke used a big second-quarter run to take control, and the seventh-seeded Blue Devils defeated 10th-seeded Georgia Tech 70-58 in the second round of the ACC Tournament. Duke led by double figures for all but 54 seconds of the second half.
Duke will play 10th-ranked North Carolina State, the second seed, on Friday. Oluchi Okanawa led Duke with 15 points. Tonie Morgan had 19 points. Duke used two runs to take a 38-26 halftime lead. The Blue Devils scored the last 11 points of the first quarter for a 17-8 lead. The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter with a 12-3 run to tie the game at 20 but then Duke had an 18-1 blitz.
Miami 60, North Carolina 59
GREENSBORO — Lazaria Spearman had 12 points and 10 rebounds and scored the go-ahead points with 2:40 left in the game as ninth-seeded Miami erased a 14-point deficit to beat eighth-seeded North Carolina 60-59 on Thursday in the second round of the ACC Tournament. The Hurricanes (19-11) will play top seed and No. 11-ranked Virginia Tech in Friday’s quarterfinals. Shayeann Day-Wilson scored 13 points with five assists, Latasha Lattimore had 12 points and Ja’Leah Williams 11, including three 3-pointers. Deja Kelly scored 15 points, though on just 6-of-20 shooting, and grabbed nine rebounds for the Tar Heels (19-12). Alyssa Ustby also scored 15 points and Lexi Donarski added 12.
Florida State 70, Wake Forest 53
GREENSBORO — Makayla Timpson had 22 points and 13 rebounds for her school record 16th double-double of the season and sixth-seeded Florida State opened a 20-point halftime lead and cruised to a 70-53 win over 14th-seeded Wake Forest in the second round of the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles were 21 of 25 at the foul line and the Demon Deacons were 4 of 9, a big reason Florida State moved on to a Friday night quarterfinal against No. 20 Syracuse, the third seed. Ta’Niya Latson added 19 points for the Seminoles. Alexandria Scruggs scored 14 points to lead the Demon Deacons. Timpson had 16 points and the Seminoles raced to a 37-17 halftime lead despite shooting just 33%.
