The number of North Carolinians without power stood at over 114,000 as of just before 3 p.m. as storms move across the state with heavy rains and winds topping gusts of 50 mph.
Duke Energy’s outage map showed 1,459 active outages in the afternoon hours as the most severe wave of storms is expected between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. this evening.
A note on the energy company’s website says in part, “Current weather conditions are limiting our ability to make significant progress on repairs to storm-damaged equipment in some areas. Once these conditions improve and strong winds subside, crews will begin making repairs and assessing damage to help determine our initial estimated times of restoration for your community. Thank you for your patience.”
