WINSTON-SALEM — Three-term U.S. Rep. Ted Budd has won North Carolina’s U.S. Senate race over Democratic nominee Cheri Beasley.
With 87% of precincts reporting on election night, Budd led by over 130,000 votes.
Budd, who will join fellow Republican Tom Tillis in the U.S. Senate, will succeed the retiring Richard Burr.
In a statement early Wednesday morning, Budd said he was humbled and honored to serve as the state’s next senator.
“I’ve seen first-hand folks suffering under Joe Biden’s economic policies that are crushing family budgets. Biden and his allies want more from you and I want more for you. With their votes today, the people of North Carolina have sent a clear signal that the Biden agenda is wrong for America,” Budd said. “It’s time to start creating jobs again instead of destroying jobs and I’m ready to fight for that in the U.S, Senate.”
