THE WORD: Ponder your path

“Adoration of the Magi” (circa 1476) is a painting by Botticelli which is part of the collection of the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy (Public Domain).

Happy New Year! As we turn to a new calendar with hopes of new opportunities, we also celebrate the visit of the three wise men to Bethlehem, which is commemorated by the Epiphany, or Old Christmas as it is called in some parts.

The wise men trusted in the Lord above their own understanding and followed his instructions. While the new year marks just another grain in the sands of eternity, it is a perfect time to reset our field of view to focus on important endeavors and cast off distractions and bad habits. The Lord goes before us and is always with us. That means that we should have no fear as we march into the uncertainty of a new year.

Proverbs 4:25-27

25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
