WINSTON-SALEM — With more than 70 percent of precincts reported, Forsyth Country Club is a full house for the Richard Burr watch party with around 300 supporters, campaign volunteers and members. Burr is currently watching the campaign with his family and plans to stop by after the result is announced. He will likely be joined by fellow North Carolina U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis and his wife, Susan. Earlier in the day campaign spokesman Jesse Hunt said he felt positive about a Burr victory with Republican turnout up by 20 percent. “The enthusiasm has been on our side and we expect that to carry over into the evening,” Hunt said.As Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump won Texas, Kansas, Indiana and Kentucky, cheers were heard through the crowd, particularly near the two TV sets on either side of the room. If Burr is elected this will be his last term in senate. Bill Parsley, who was attending the watch party, said, “Burr’s done more for this state in the last 20 years, it’s phenomenal. Why would we not show up and support him?”
