WILSON — The race is still on for the position of North Carolina’s Attorney General. As ballots are continuing to be tabulated in Durham County, races such as this and the governor’s seat are pending decisions. Sen. Josh Stein, D-Wake, leads Sen. Buck Newton, R-Wilson, with 2,277,340 votes over Newton’s 2,256,562 votes, separating the candidates by less than one percent. As provisional and absentee ballots continue to be added up, Newton would have to come within 10,000 votes of Stein to file for a recount.”It has been a really good campaign. It is hard to believe almost two years has gone by and we are here at the end though it looks like it is too close to call,” said Newton. “It looks like it may be some time before we know the actual results. It has been a really rewarding experience to get to make so many friends across the state of North Carolina, to talk about issues with the Department of Justice and to hear what kind of Attorney General North Carolinians want. I am really glad I ran for Attorney General.” Newton spent election night with family, friends and supporters in his hometown of Wilson.
