UNC Pembroke placekicker Matt Davis was named on Wednesday to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association All-American team. He becomes the 14th UNCP player in the program’s 10-year history to earn such an honor and only the second to gain first-team recognition. Punter Justin Hinson was the other in 2009. In addition to his All-America selection, Davis was named the winner of the Fred Mitchell Award as the top placekicker in FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA. Davis set a school record with 119 points this season in helping the Braves win 10 games and advance to the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. He finished his senior season going 27 of 32 on field goals, including 6 of 7 from 50 yards or beyond. He also made 38 of 39 extra points while also serving as his team’s punter and kickoff specialist. The redshirt senior from Richlands finished his career as the all-time Division II leader in field goal percentage (37 of 44, 84.1 percent) and the holder of 12 individual school records.
