College Basketball Roundup: UNC Asheville tops Radford in OT

ASHEVILLE — DeVon Baker scored 26 points, UNC Asheville made up a 17-point gap to tie in regulation and defeat Radford 76-68 in overtime on Sunday.

Coty Jude sparked a 19-4 rally by UNC Asheville, hitting two 3-pointers, and a Tajion Jones trey forced OT at 67-67.

Jones scored 12 points with six rebounds for UNC Asheville (9-7, 8-3 Big South Conference), which earned its sixth straight home victory. Trent Stephney added 10 points and Jude 9.

The Bulldogs forced a season-high 23 turnovers.

Quinton Morton-Robertson had 15 points for the Highlanders (10-7, 9-2), whose six-game win streak was broken. Xavier Lipscomb added 14 points and nine rebounds. Chyree Walker also had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Asheville is now just a game behind Radford for second place in the Big South and the teams meet again Monday.

High Point 81, Presbyterian 57

HIGH POINT — Ahmil Flowers had a season-high 20 points as High Point easily beat Presbyterian 81-57 on Sunday.

John-Michael Wright had 19 points and eight assists for High Point (4-8, 2-5 Big South Conference). Lydell Elmore added 11 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

The Panthers forced a season-high 22 turnovers.

High Point scored 46 points in the first half, a season best for the team.

Winston Hill had 16 points for the Blue Hose (3-8, 1-6), who have now lost five straight games. Trevon Reddish added 14 points. Owen McCormack had 11 points.

Gardner-Webb 72, Charleston Southern 62

BOILING SPRINGS — D’Maurian Williams had a career-best 21 points as Gardner-Webb beat Charleston Southern 74-62 on Sunday.

This series was originally set for Jan 4-5 and was moved up when South Carolina Upstate couldn’t play at Gardner-Webb.

Jordan Sears had 16 points for Gardner-Webb (5-9, 4-5 Big South Conference). Kareem Reid added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jaheam Cornwall had seven assists.

Gardner-Webb posted a season-high 22 assists.

Phlandrous Fleming Jr. had 32 points and seven rebounds for the Buccaneers (1-12, 0-9), who have now lost nine games in a row.

Davidson 69, UMass 60

AMHERST, Mass. — Kellan Grady scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half as Davidson topped UMass in a 69-60 come-from-behind win on Sunday.

Sam Mennenga added 11 points and eight rebounds for Davidson (10-5, 6-2 Atlantic 10 Conference), which earned its fourth consecutive win and is unbeaten on the road. Nelson Boachie-Yiadom added eight points with three blocks.

Trailing 32-27 at the break, the Wildcats shot 61% in the second half, launching a 15-6 run to take their first lead, 46-44, which they never surrendered. Davidson outscored UMass 42-28 in the second half, making 17 of 28 from the floor.

Tre Mitchell had 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Minutemen (5-4, 4-2). T.J. Weeks Jr. also scored 16 points and Noah Fernandes 15.

Carl Pierre, the Minutemen’s second-leading scorer (14 ppg) had five in 1-for-7 shooting, 1 of 6 from behind the 3-point arc.

Delaware 67, UNC Wilmington 62

WILMINGTON — Ryan Allen scored a season-high 25 points as Delaware edged past UNC Wilmington 67-62 on Sunday.

Dylan Painter had 15 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for Delaware (5-7, 3-4 Colonial Athletic Association), which broke its four-game road losing streak.

Leading 37-36 at the half, Delaware held UNC Wilmington to a season-low 26 second-half points on 8 of 26 shooting (31%).

Ty Gadsden had 14 points for the Seahawks (7-6, 1-3). Joe Pridgen added 12 points and eight rebounds. Jaylen Sims had 12 points and six rebounds.

UNC Wilmington defeated Delaware 77-70 on Saturday.

Memphis 80, East Carolina 53

GREENVILLE — Moussa Cisse scored 14 points with nine rebounds and Memphis beat East Carolina 80-53 on Sunday.

DeAndre Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds for Memphis (8-5, 4-2 American Athletic Conference). Boogie Ellis scored 11 points and Landers Nolley II had seven rebounds.

Memphis dominated the first half and led 49-18 at halftime. The Pirates’ 18 first-half points were a season low for the team.

Tremont Robinson-White had 15 points for the Pirates (7-4, 1-4), Brandon Suggs scored 11 and Tristen Newton 10.
