RALEIGH – Republican Lisa Stones Barnes will return to the General Assembly, this time moving from her state House seat to the state Senate. Barnes, a one-term state Rep. from Nash County, entered the race against former Democratic state Sen. Allen Wellons.
The race was a target of both parties, with hundreds of thousands of dollars spent by supporters of both candidates. In the end, Barnes won with 55% of the vote.
