RALEIGH – Gov. Roy Cooper announced today that state will remain in phase two until Sept. 11 at a press briefing from the Emergency Operations Center.

“Other states that lifted restrictions quickly have had to go backward as their hospital capacity ran dangerously low and their cases jumped higher. We will not make that mistake in North Carolina,” said Gov. Cooper. “In keeping with our dimmer switch approach with schools opening, and in order to push for decreasing numbers which will keep people healthier and boost our economy, North Carolina will remain paused in Safer At Home phase two for 5 weeks.”

Earlier today, reports stated the extension would last “at least four weeks.” The full executive order can be viewed here.

Today’s executive order also extends EOs 141, 147, and 151, which includes restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings, restaurant restrictions, and face covering requirements. The order keeps bars, entertainment venues, fitness and exercise facilities, and several other types of businesses closed.

“While overall we are seeing signs of stability, we still have much work to do. Our recent trends show us what is possible when we commit to slowing the spread by wearing face coverings and following those simple but powerful 3Ws,” said NC Dept. of Health & Human Services secretary Mandy Cohen.

N.C. has remained in phase two since May 22.
