RALEIGH Anthony Domonique Lennon, a former East Carolina football player, was shot and killed Friday night behind the Bahama Breeze restaurant in Raleigh.Lennon, 24, was found dead on arrival when officers responded to a call made at approximately 9:45 p.m. Authorities blocked off the parking lot after a reported 10 to 15 shots were fired behind the Bahama Breeze.The Suffolk, Va. native started for the Pirates football team in 12 games, playing in 26 total, from 2012 through 2015. Lennon earned three letters and recorded 101 total tackles with four passes defensed as a defensive back during his tenure in Greenville.More than his play on the field, it was clear he made an impact with his former teammates. The East Carolina Athletics Department also released a statement on the passing of Lennon:”East Carolina University, the athletics department and Pirate football program are saddened by the tragic passing of Domonique Lennon. He made a positive impact on many people during his time as a student-athlete at ECU and earned the respect of both his teammates and coaches. We extend our condolences to Domonique’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved him.”Police are still investigating the shooting and working to identify why shots were fired in Lennon’s death.
