Shortly after NC State’s 52-13 loss to Texas A&M in the Gator Bowl on Monday, junior Jakobi Meyers announced that he’s joining fellow first-team All-ACC wide receiver Kelvin Harmon in the NFL draft.
“I came to NC State a kid chasing two dreams,” Meyers, who earned his degree in sports management with a minor in business administration last month, said in a statement. “I’m leaving a man with one dream fulfilled and hopefully another on the way. I would like to thank my teammates and all the staff here at NC State for helping me get to this position.”
Unlike Harmon, who sat out the Gator Bowl after declaring for the draft, Meyers played against A&M in what will be his final college game. He had three catches for 19 yards to finish the season with a school-record 92 receptions — the 10th-best total in ACC history.
The converted quarterback finishes his career with 168 catches.
Meyers is the third star underclassman from a state college to leave school early for the 2019 draft. Duke quarterback Daniel Jones and linebacker Joe Giles-Harris also made the decision to turn pro after the Blue Devils’ Independence Bowl win against Temple last week.
