Wolfpack junior Kelvin Harmon to be honored on Senior Night

Junior wide receiver Kelvin Harmon has not yet announced whether he will enter the NFL draft after this season, but he will go through NC State’s Senior Night festivities before tonight’s game against Wake Forest at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Coach Dave Doeren made the announcement after practice on Wednesday.

“He has not made any decisions, but this is a milestone type thing and he has a lot of family coming in, which for him is very rare,” Doeren said.

“I didn’t want you guys misreading it or wondering why he’s out there, but this is one of those things for him that he loves the milestones of his career.  I think it’s really important and he doesn’t want to miss that if that’s where he ends up at the end of the decision, but he has by no means made a decision yet and won’t until he gets all of his information back.”

Harmon leads the ACC in receiving yards per game at 103.9. He has 50 catches for 831 yards and five touchdowns through eight games.

The 6-foot-3, 214-pound New Jersey native is projected as a first-round pick should he chooses to enter the draft. It’s a decision, Doeren said, that won’t likely be made until after the regular season.

“I’ll get the NFL stuff back, but sometime during the bowl week we will sit down with him and his dad and decide,” Doeren said. “He’ll decide if he’s coming back or not, and he said if he does, he will have Two senior Days. He doesn’t want to not have one if that’s the direction he ends up going.”

Alough tonight is Senior Night, the game against Wake Forest isn’t the last one for the Wolfpack at Carter-Finley Stadium this season. State will also play at home on Dec. 1 against East Carolina in a game that was added to the schedule following the cancellation of a date against West Virginia during Hurricane Florence.

Doeren said that while there was discussion about delaying Senior Night until that final home game, the logistics of making such a move were too difficult to overcome.

In all, 19 upperclassme will be honored tonight.

“A lot of our parents are coming from Arizona or California or New York and had already bought plane tickets,” Doeren said. “We sent a text to the seniors and said ‘Can we do this?’ Half of them couldn’t and it just wasn’t worth it.

“It had nothing to do with wanting it to be Wake. We had already set it out there and couldn’t pull it back at that point.”
