WATERBURY, Vt. — Vermont Emergency Management says one of the state’s swift-water rescue teams is heading to North Carolina in case they are needed to perform evacuations and rescues if Hurricane Florence causes dangerous flooding.
Vermont officials say the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management requested assistance through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.

The team is leaving Tuesday and will be staged in Raleigh, North Carolina. The mission is expected to last 10 days.
The team is made up of responders from the Vermont Division of Fire Safety, the fire departments from Burlington, Hartford, Rutland, Springfield, Williston and Lebanon, New Hampshire.
