Wake’s Doral Moore hires agent, will remain in NBA draft

The deadline for underclassmen withdrawing their names from the NBA Draft isn’t until June 11. But apparently, Wake Forest’s Doral Moore has already gotten enough positive feedback to make his decision.

The 7-foot-1 junior announced Tuesday that he has hired an agent and will forgo his final season of college eligibility for a shot at the pro game.

Moore was one of the most improved players in the ACC last season while posting career-high averages of 11.1 points and 9.4 rebounds and leading the Deacons with 61 blocked shots. His field goal percentage of .689 was a Deacons school record.

“I want to thank Coach (Danny) Manning (and) the assistant coaches for their guidance and preparing me to take this step,” Moore said in a statement announcing his departure. “I appreciate how they believed in me, stuck with me and pushed me to reach my potential. I developed so much, both as a player and a person, during my years at Wake Forest.”

Moore came to the Deacons as a four-star recruit, but averaged just over three points and two rebounds per game, primarily as a backup to first-round NBA draft pick John Collins, during his first two seasons.

He is one of five Wake players to either enter the draft or announce their intention to transfer since the end of the 2017-18 season.

Junior guard Bryant Crawford is also in the draft, but has yet to hire an agent, giving him the option to return to school. Junior guard Keyshawn Woods and sophomore forwards Donovan Mitchell and Rich Washington have been granted releases and are looking for new schools.

“We wish Doral the best of luck as he begins the next stage of his career,” Manning said. “We have seen his development over his three years in our program and to average a double-double in ACC games last season shows his potential. While we are disappointed to see him leave, we are proud that our program has been able to help another player achieve his dream of playing professional basketball.”
