The 2017-18 college basketball season has only been over for less than two weeks, but already the ACC has provided a glimpse ahead Tuesday by announcing its conference matchups for the coming 2018-19 campaign.
The schedule is the last with 18 conference games before the ACC expands league play to 20 games.
While the unbalanced schedule again features home-and-home meetings between rivals North Carolina and Duke, and UNC-NC State, the Wolfpack and Blue Devils will play only once during the regular season — at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Dates and times for all the games will be announced later this summer.
Among the highlights for the four in-state teams are:
◼ No appearance in Chapel Hill by Clemson, meaning that the Tar Heels’ undefeated streak at home against the Tigers is safe for at least one more year;
◼ Clemson’s visit to Duke, where it will meet up with star recruit and South Carolina native Zion Williamson, who shunned the Tigers to sign with the Blue Devils;
◼ A favorable draw for NC State, with two games each against Wake Forest, Boston College and Pittsburgh, along with home dates only against Virginia, Virginia Tech and Clemson;
◼ No favors for Danny Manning and Wake Forest, with all four home-and-home series’ coming against 2018 NCAA tournament teams and difficult road trips to Virginia, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Notre Dame.
After a two-year run in Brooklyn, the 2019 ACC Tournament will return home to North Carolina, at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte on March 12-16.
