Martin Jarmond, a Fayetteville native who played college basketball at UNC Wilmington, has been named the next athletic director at UCLA, according to multiple published reports.

Jarmond has been the AD at Boston College for the past three years.

According to the Boston Herald, the 39-year-old has agreed to a six-year deal to replace Dan Guerrero, who is retiring after 18 years as UCLA’s AD.

Jarmond is considered a rising star in athletic administration, arriving at BC as the youngest athletic director at any Power Five school. He emerged as one of two finalists for the Bruins’ job late last week before ultimately becoming the choice over UNLV’s Desiree Reed-Francois.

During his short time at BC, Jarmond oversaw a $150 million capital campaign that was the first in school history and the largest of any ACC school. His last major move with the Eagles may end up being his most consequential.

In December, he fired football coach Steve Addazio after going 44-44 in seven seasons, replacing him with Jeff Hafley — the defensive coordinator at Ohio State, the school at which Jarmond had previously worked as deputy AD.

Jarmond came to UNCW as a walk-on from Pine Forest High School, eventually worked his way into the starting lineup and was twice named team captain. A 5-foot-9 point guard, he was a key contributor on the Seahawks’ first NCAA Tournament team in 2000.

In the classroom, Jarmond earned All-CAA Academic honors while earning a degree in communications with a minor in leadership studies. He also has postgraduate degrees in business and sports administration from Ohio University.

“Martin’s breadth of experience and commitment to students and coaches is extraordinary,” North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham said at the time of Jarmond’s hiring at BC. “As a former student-athlete, he has an incredible grasp of the student experience and the coaching requirements needed to succeed.”
