ECU, UNC Asheville gets wins; NC Central and N.C. A&T lose

BUIES CREEK — Cedric Henderson Jr. scored 15 points and Campbell breezed to a 60-46 victory over Elon on Tuesday night.

Trey Spencer added 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Fighting Camels (7-3). Jordan Whitfield finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

Marcus Sheffield II had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Phoenix (4-8). Zac Ervin scored 11.

Elon shot 35% from the floor and hit 6 of 24 from 3-point range. Campbell shot 44% overall and made 7 of 22 from distance.

Gardner powers ECU past Maryland-Eastern Shore

GREENVILLE — Sophomore Jayden Gardner finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season and East Carolina rolled to a 71-57 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday night.

Freshman Brandon Suggs added the first double-double of his career for the Pirates (4-7), totaling 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

AJ Cheeseman came off the bench to hit 5 of 7 shots from the floor and all five of his free throws, scoring 15 for the Hawks (1-11). UMES starters combined to score 19 points on 9-of-31 shooting.

East Carolina rolled to a 35-16 halftime lead before Maryland Eastern Shore scored 41 second-half points, a season high.

Jones scores 21 to carry UNC Asheville over Stetson 78-76

ASHEVILLE — Tajion Jones had 21 points as UNC Asheville narrowly defeated Stetson 78-76 on Tuesday night.

Jones shot 8 for 10 from the floor. Lavar Batts Jr. had 14 points for UNC Asheville (6-4), which earned its fourth straight home victory. DeVon Baker added 14 points and six assists. Coty Jude had 13 points for the home team.

Rob Perry had 29 points and eight rebounds for the Hatters (5-8). Mahamadou Diawara added 18 points. Kenny Aninye had 13 points.

Jude’s free throw with two seconds left gave UNC Asheville a five-point lead before Rob Perry made a 3-pointer as time ran out.

UNC Asheville faces Chattanooga at home on Saturday. Stetson faces Florida International at home on Sunday.

Ledoux leads Louisiana Tech past NC Central

RUSTON, La. — Reserve Kalob Ledoux and Derric Jean both hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points and Louisiana Tech defeated North Carolina Central 69-60 on Tuesday night.

Mubarak Muhammed added 15 points for the Bulldogs (8-3), who earned their sixth consecutive home victory.

After falling behind 30-28 at the half, Louisiana Tech used a 20-7 run to take a 56-43 lead with 6:35 to play.

The Eagles got within 66-60 when Ty Graves drained his second consecutive 3-pointer with a minute left but Louisiana Tech wrapped it up with free throws.

Jibri Blount had 18 points for the Eagles (3-10), Graves added 14 and Mike Melvin had 11.

Kent State beats N.C. A&T in OT

El Paso, Texas — Kent State scored the first 12 points of overtime and outscored North Carolina A&T 17-3 overall in the extra session to deny the Aggies an upset in El Paso. N.C. A&T hit 9 of 18 3-pointers — including 5 of 6 from Fred Cleveland Jr. off the bench — but the Golden Flashes dominated in OT to improve to 9-2 on the season.

The Aggies (3-9) got a team-high 21 points from Cleveland Jr. and had three others (Ronald Jackson, 17; Kameron Langley, 14; Andre Jackson 10) in double-figures in the loss. Kent State forced overtime with a 3-pointer at the regulation buzzer by Mitch Peterson, and senior Philip Whittington scored a career-high 29 points and added 12 rebounds to lead the Golden Flashes.
