ACC tournament pairings, bracket are set

UNC is the No. 2 seed and Duke is No. 3, setting up the potential for a semifinal matchup on Friday in Charlotte

  The seedings and bracket for the 66th annual ACC Tournament, which will be played Tuesday through Saturday at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center, are set.

  Regular-season co-champion Virginia (28-2 overall, 16-2 ACC) will be the top-seeded team for the fourth time in six years and the fifth time overall. The Cavaliers will receive a double-bye into Thursday’s quarterfinal round, along with No. 2 seed and regular-season co-champion North Carolina (26-5, 16-2), No. 3 Duke (26-5, 14-4) and No. 4 Florida State (25-6, 13-5).

  The tournament opens Tuesday with three first-round games. No. 12 Miami (13-17, 5-13) faces No. 13 Wake Forest (11-19, 4-14) at noon, followed by No. 10 Georgia Tech (14-17, 6-12) versus No. 15 Notre Dame (13-18, 3-15) at 2 p.m. No. 11 Boston College (14-16, 5-13) faces No. 14 Pitt (13-18, 3-15) at 7 p.m.

  Fifth-seeded Virginia Tech (23-7, 12-6), No. 6 Syracuse (19-12, 10-8), No. 7 Louisville (19-12, 10-8), No. 8 NC State (21-10, 9-9) and No. 9 Clemson (19-12, 9-9) will see their first tournament action on Wednesday. NC State and Clemson will square off at noon, while Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Louisville will meet the winners of Tuesday’s three first-round games.

  Wednesday’s winners will advance to face the tournament’s four top seeded teams in Thursday’s quarterfinal round.

  The 2019 ACC Tournament will culminate with a pair of semifinal games on Friday evening and the championship game on Saturday night. This year’s championship game is set for a primetime 8:30 p.m. start.

  All 14 tournament games will be nationally televised on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU and Raycom Sports. In addition, all games will be available via ACC Network Extra.
