Today is Flag Day which memorializes June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution calling for the creation of the official United States flag. The resolution read “the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
