Duke sophomore forward Chase Jeter will transfer to another school to finish his college career, the school announced on Thursday. Jeter arrived at Duke as a five-star recruit from Bishop Gorman, Nevada. and one of the top 15 incoming freshmen in the nation. He was never able to crack the regular rotation as a freshman, however, as inconsistency and foul trouble hindered his playing time. He averaged 1.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.9 minutes of playing time. Expected to play a bigger role as a sophomore, Jeter again struggled with consistency. He got 14.9 minutes per game, but managed just 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds. Jeter underwent a back procedure in January and didn’t play the rest of the season. “Chase has been an outstanding young man in our program for the last two years,” Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement from the school. “He has been one of our top academic performers since he arrived on campus. Unfortunately, he was held back this season due to injury. We wish nothing but the absolute best for Chase and his family.” Jeter will sit out next season and have two years of eligibility.”I have loved my time at Duke, getting a world-class education and competing alongside my brothers every day,” Jeter said. “After careful consideration, I decided it would be best for me to transfer to a school closer to home. I’ve made long-lasting relationships here and I want to thank my teammates and coaches for the support they’ve given me over the last two years.”
