NEW YORK – Word of singer Mariah Carey’s performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is dominating social media on January 1. Carey appeared to have botched a lip-synced appearance on the live broadcast before millions of viewers. Her appearance came just before the midnight ball drop and was blamed on technical problems. “I’m trying to be a good sport here,” she said to the audience while a recording of her voice singing ‘Emotions’ filled the air. At the end of the performance she said “it is what it is,” and walked off stage. What the technical problems were was not immediately clear. Carey said they had not done a sound check ahead of the show. Her backup dancers escorted an unstable Carey around the stage during the performance while she talked into the microphone. “Here’s to making more headlines in 2017,” she tweeted on New Year’s Day.
